Surrounded by loved ones, Marie Barbara Savostianik (Kelln) passed on April 10, 2026 in the Battlefords Union Hospital palliative care unit after a months long struggle with cancer.
She was born in Regina SK on December 21, 1955, to parents Leona (Schmitz) and John.
Marie was raised in Regina and moved to Saskatoon as a young adult where she began to build her own roots. She married Mervin Savostianik in 1981 and together they nurtured sons Jeff and Aden. Her children’s hockey practices, school events, and annual ski trips to the BC mountains provided much their entertainment and social lives. Her support for her husband’s brave decision to return to university set the family up for even more life fulfilment and future security. Meanwhile, Marie also studied to earn a business management diploma.
She combined parenthood and a career, which started in a Regina department store clerical position, moved to a job at Sasktel, worked in a Saskatoon real-estate office, and moved on to positions with the Saskatchewan Research Council and National Research Council, culminating with her own consulting business from which she planned corporate events and championed local entrepreneurs by leading the Saskatchewan Angel Investors Network. Marie decided to retire from the workforce after she won a battle with breast cancer in 2019.
In 2021 Marie moved with Merv into their new dream home on Murray Lake near Cochin, SK. The new lake life included pickle ball, golf, snowmobiling, kayaking, travel, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and glorious hours in her well-equipped crafts room (quilting was a favourite).
Marie was passionate and compassionate—she quickly cultivated deep friendships and was devoted to her extended family.
Marie is survived by Merv, sons Aden and Jeff (McKay), Jeff’s wife Rebecca and sons Tyson, Carter, and Jaxon, and brothers Richard (Rick) and Robert (Bob) Kelln.
A celebration of life will be held on a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to honour Marie’s memory can be made to the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation, www.bhcfoundation.ca
Arrangements have been entrusted to Eternal Memories Funeral Service & Crematorium – Trevor Watts Funeral Director.
