Katherine Mandzuik (nee Hupaelo) was born to Mike Hupaelo and Nettie Bilanski on September 30, 1943 at the family farm in the Krydor District.  She was the youngest of 5 children.   On June 24, 1961, she married John Mandzuik.  They had two children:  Darrell, and Beverly.   Katherine and John farmed in the Krydor District until they moved to North Battleford in 1983.

In North Battleford, Katherine worked part time as a cleaner at McDonald’s where she met everyone with a big smile.  She was active in the church choir and in the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League at All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Parish until she suffered a stroke in 2012.  After that, Katherine required the use a wheelchair and was increasingly confined to her home.  In February, 2025, she was hospitalized after a fall and was never able to return home again. She was placed at the Cut Knife Nursing Home prior to her move to Cozy Nest Care Home outside of Saskatoon.  She spent her last year at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Saskatoon where she was lovingly cared for by the Ukrainian Sisters of St. Joseph and the nursing staff.

Katherine was predeceased by her husband, John, her son, Darrell, her siblings, Peter and Josephine, who died in infancy, and her sister, Mary.  She is survived by her daughter, Beverly, grandchildren, Chrystal and Dallas, sister, Anne, and her nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of All Saints, 922 – 108^th Street North Battleford, SK on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.  followed by interment at the City Cemetery.  Any donations in memory of the deceased may be made to the parish.
