Mrs. Joyce Chmelnyk (née Gallie) of North Battleford, SK passed away at the Battlefords Union Hospital on Monday, January 8, 2024, at the age of 85 years.
She was the loving mother of: Terry (Amber) of North Battleford, Ken (Penny) of Battleford, Randy (Darlene) of Stettler, AB. She will also be dearly missed by her 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Joyce will also be lovingly remembered by: Brother-in-laws: Norval (Swede) Sjoberg, Delmar Buck, Paul Weinberger; Sisters-in-law: Sonia Chmelnyk, Maggie Chmelnyk, Josie Chmelnyk, Judy Gallie.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Harry; long-time friend, Jack Tady; Sons: Eddy & Bobby; Great- Grandson, Mason Schrader; Great-granddaughter, Bostyn Allen; parents: Adolphus & Ivis Gallie; Her mother, Xenia; father-in-law, Paul Chmelnyk; Sisters: Geraldine (John) Kuziw, Shirley Buck, Mary (Leo) Savoie, Lilly (Omer) Gerard, Lollie (Percy) Howard, Leona Sjoberg, Evelyn (Ken) Bergen; Brothers: Terry Gallie, Sonny (Olive) Gallie, Berle (Joan) Gallie, Garry Gallie; Sister-in-laws: Elizabeth (Victor) Keyko, Veronica Chmelnyk, Mary (Pete) Sarouoka, Rosie Weinberger; Brother-in-laws: Victor, Mike, Slowko (Carol), Jim, Joe, Peter, Bill Chmelnyk. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce was born in North Battleford, Sk to Ivis and Adolphus, she was one of 12 children. She was married to Harry in 1956 and 2 years later they started a family of 5 boys who she was very proud of. Joyce and Harry loved going out on the weekends to dances with friends. After Harry’s passing, she met her long-time friend Jack and they continued with the tradition of going dancing on the weekends. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, going to the casino and dining out. She looked forward to her family visits when her sons, spouses and grandchildren would visit. Joyce was a very caring person and had lots and lots of friends. Joyce was the last of 12 children born to Ivis and Adolphus Gallie. Joyce was such a fighter and fought until the very end and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
If so desired memorial donations in memory of Joyce’s name may be made directly to the BUH Foundation – Palliative Care Unit Box 1358 North Battleford, SK S9A 3L8 or the Charity of the Donor’s Choice. A Memorial service for Joyce will be held at a later date.
