LIEBAERT: Denise Marie Louise Liebaert (Haegebaert) passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the age of 86.
Denise was born on July 24, 1935 in Jabbeke, Belgium. She and her family immigrated to Canada in 1947 and settled on the farm near North Battleford.
In 1953, she married Firmin Liebaert. They were married for 63 years before Firmin passed away in 2017. Together they raised six children: Eileen (Eugene) Oborowsky, Joyce (Gene) Polard, Victor (Elaine) Liebaert, Christine (Scott) Printz, Shirley (Kevin) Peters and Gordie Liebaert (Barb Weihmann).
Denise’s farm life centred around raising her children, supporting the farm operations, and tending to a large garden. There was never a shortage of fresh baking—especially pies, which were her specialty! Denise loved flowers; each spring she looked forward to planting and caring for her many annuals and perennials. She was an avid bowler and YBC coach for many years. In her spare time, Denise enjoyed embroidery, card games, and tile rummy.
In 1985, Denise and Firmin moved into North Battleford. Moving off the farm allowed her the opportunity to work various part-time jobs, including many years at Robin’s Donuts and Tim Horton’s. Numerous lifelong friendships developed from her interaction with customers and co-workers.
Denise loved visiting with her children and their families. She loved to drive and often took road trips to see them. As a passionate dog lover, she also considered her dogs to be family members. Denise will be forever remembered for her kindness, sense of humour, generosity, and strength.
Cherishing her memory are her six children, 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; her sister, Godelieve Lacoursiere; her brother, Gaston Haegebaert, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 24th, 2022 at St. Joseph Calasanctius Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father Phinh Do as celebrant. Lunch will follow at St. Joseph’s Church Hall. Interment will take place at 1:30 PM at the North Battleford City Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Denise may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Saskatchewan SPCA.
The family would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time.
