It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darlene Beverley Lavoie, a remarkable woman who lived her life with spirit, style, and strength. Born in New Westminster, BC, Darlene spent her final years in Saskatoon, SK, leaving behind a legacy that touched the hearts of many.
Darlene was the cherished daughter of Edith and Bob Lavoie, and though she had no siblings, she built a family rich with love. She was the proud mother of Michele Feeser, Cameron Dyck, and Colin Dyck. Her grandchildren – Samantha, Kelsey, Jasmine, Danelle, Hannah, Spencer, Ryan, Alexander, and Cameron – brought joy to her life, as did her great-grandchildren Everlee and Drew, who were the newest lights of her heart.
Darlene’s life was as diverse and vibrant as she was. Trained as a hairdresser in the 1960s, she later returned to school in the 1990s to become a Substance Abuse Counsellor. Her career path reflected her wide-ranging passions and talents, from owning her own salon to working as a counsellor for the Elizabeth Fry Society. In her later years, she found joy working at Winners, where her eye for style and love for people kept her connected to the world around her.
Darlene was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 47 years, sponsoring countless individuals and offering unwavering support to those on the same path. She also found solace in various churches and maintained deep connections within her Metis community. Never one to shy away from an adventure, Darlene was fiercely independent, seldom staying in one place for too long. She embraced life with a full heart, always ready to meet new people, speak her mind, and explore new opportunities.
Known for her sharp style, Darlene loved to dress to the nines, always putting her best foot forward. She lived her life with courage and tenacity, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Darlene’s adventurous spirit, love for community, and unshakeable independence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
In her memory, a private ceremony will be held by her family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society or the Central Urban Métis Federation Inc.
