It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Bonnie Kalin on Monday, May 29, 2023, at Battlefords District Care Centre with family by her side.
Born March 25, 1947, in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She was one of 17 siblings born to Ralph and Miriam Neary of Fairmont, Nova Scotia.
In her late teens she moved to Turo, Nova Scotia where she took a cosmetology program. Soon after graduation she moved to Canadian Forces Base Borden, Ontario. While working as a very talented hair stylist, she met the love of her life, Military Policeman S.D. Kalin. They married in 1970 and started a family of three daughters born in Alliston, Ontario: Patricia Michelle, Pamela Ann and Tanya Leah.
In 1974, the family moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland, where David started a new career with Pyramid Homes. Not long after that the family moved to North Battleford, SK where David continued his career with Pyramid Homes.
Bonnie and David raised their three girls in North Battleford, SK, which was their forever home. In 1986 Bonnie lost the love of her life. Shortly after, Bonnie started a career at Battleford District Care Centre, loving each and every patient. She was very passionate in every aspect of her job as a Special Care Aide. This truly was Mom’s calling in life, besides being the greatest Grandma.
Mom could be found baking, cleaning, gardening, playing cards, picking berries, spoiling all of our pets, loving her grandkids and she loved travelling back home each year to Nova Scotia.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters and their families: Tricia Steacy (Chad) – Ty and Reece; Pam Kalin (Aaron) – Josh (Jessica), Jessica and Joel; Tanya Kalin (Scott) – Gracee; great-granddaughter, Rhen; brothers: David, Joe, Patrick and Jerome; sisters: Beatrice, Florence, Ellen, Patsy and Brenda.
She was predeceased by her husband, David; her parents: Ralph and Miriam Neary; brothers: Bobby, Geno, Howard, Jimmy and Francis; sisters: Evelyn, Maggie and Dorothy.
Mom will be truly missed by her girls and grandchildren, lets raise our glasses in a toast for Mom’s final farewell… Cheers.
A Private Family Celebration for Bonnie’s life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Bonnie can be directed to the Battlefords Humane Society Po Box 645 North Battleford, SK S9A 2Y7 or the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
