Posted Dec 12, 2023 | 10:51 AM
Wesley (Jones)Paul Pooyak was born on the Sweetgrass First Nation to Eli and Elizbeth Pooyak. He attended Duck Lake Residential School until he left to take care of his ailing father as his mother had to work away from the home. At that time, they had no electricity, water and had to live off the land. Wesley learned to hunt and began to farm and ranch at a very young age. At age 18 he met his soulmate and wife of 52 years, Eileen.
Wes and Eileen received a cow for their wedding present and went on to build a successful farming/ranching operation. They went on to have four children. Wesley was an extremely dedicated husband, father, grandfather and farmer. Wesley always made the time for his wife, children and grandchildren even after a hard day at work. Wes would try to attend all the kids’ sports games he could as he enjoyed watching and was the biggest supporter of their extracurricular activities.
On December 10, Wes passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Wes impacted many people throughout his life with his humor, teachings and guidance. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
Wesley’s memory is lovingly remembered by his wife, Eileen; children: Dwayne (Suzy), Dean (Courtney), Melanie (Luwen) and Chrissy (Luke); grandchildren: Alessandra, Rianna (Levi), Tate, Markus, Marlow, Evan, Libbey, Lucas, Paris; sister, Sylvia (Roger); brother, Kenneth (Bernice); numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
