With great sadness, the family of Victor Michael Iwawnchuk announces his passing on July 23, 2026, two months shy of his 90th birthday.

Victor was the second of four children born to John and Nettie Iwanchuk on September 16, 1936, in Hafford, Saskatchewan. His childhood began on a small farm in the Richard area. The family later moved to a farm near Brada, where they spent the summer months while continuing to winter in North Battleford before settling there full-time in 1950. Upon graduating from NBCI in 1954, Vic began farming alongside his father and brother, Russell.

In 1956, Vic met the love of his life and soulmate, Bettie Louise Van. The couple married in February 1958 and built a life together on the farm, where they raised their three children. Vic and Bettie remained on the farm until the fall of 1991, when they sold the property and retired to Cochin, Saskatchewan. They enjoyed 19 years there before relocating to Battleford in 2010, where they continued to make their home together until Vic’s passing.

Throughout his life, Vic embraced the challenges of farming and took immense pride in his carpentry skills. Over the years, he built 17 homes in the Battlefords area. He never truly “put the hammer down” and could often be found completing renovations, woodworking, and tackling a variety of new projects.

Family was always Vic’s greatest priority. Together, he and Bettie established the long-standing tradition of the E/Iwanchuk family reunions. The first reunion, held in 1977, welcomed more than 165 family members to their farm. The seventh and most recent reunion, held in 2025, brought together 217 family members, with Vic proudly attending as the oldest surviving member of the family.

Vic and Betties shared a love of travel and spent many years trailering together. Their favourite destination was Arizona, where they purchased property and spent more than 35 winters, creating countless friendships and cherished memories.

Vic earned his pilot’s license in 1957 and thoroughly enjoyed flying. In 1980, he became the proud owner of a Cessna 172, an experience that brought him several years of enjoyment.

Vic also had an unwavering love for animals, including his horses and the many faithful canine companions he welcomed into his life. Most recently, he enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dogs, Zipper and Bella.

Vic is lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 ½ years, Bettie Iwanchuk; his daughter, Joyda (Murray) Bristow, and their children: Katie Bristow and Mitchell (Marina) Bristow; his daughter, Hali (Dan) Nahirney, and their children: Kaylin Nahirney and Jaedyn Nahirney; his siblings: Elsie Draganuk and Ed (Debbie) Iwanchuk; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Nettie Iwanchuk; his son, Dana Iwanchuk; his brother, Russell Iwanchuk; his brother-in-law, Bill Draganuk; and many other beloved family members.

In keeping with Vic’s wishes, cremation has taken place. He will await his lifelong partner, Bettie and together, they will be interred with their son, Dana. A private family service will be held at a later date.
