In Loving Memory of Robert “Bob” Mercer
Robert “Bob” Mercer was born on March 25, 1958, in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, to Howard and Betty Mercer. As one of eight siblings he was raised in several small communities throughout Saskatchewan before his family settled in North Battleford. There he met his future wife and mother of their four daughters, Holly Mercer (Ochs).
Bob retired from CN Railway in 2015 and since then he lived a life of quiet service, believing that helping people wasn’t simply something he did—it was who he was. Whether helping family and friends with DIY projects or volunteering countless hours with the Battlefords District Food & Resource Centre, driving the food bank truck, preparing Christmas hampers, assisting with income tax clinics, lending a hand at the golf club, volunteering with Operation Red Nose, Bob was always there when he was needed. He never looked for recognition; he simply showed up.
A devoted father to his four beloved daughters, a caring grandfather to his six grandchildren, a most special uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Bob’s greatest joy was his family. He also cherished time on the golf course, riding his motorcycle, going to music concerts and spending time with family at the lake. He was a trusted friend, a steady source of wisdom and encouragement and someone whose kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved life partner, Holly Mercer; children: Jenni (Kevin) (Mathew, Gracelyn) Huys, Anna (Al) (Bethany, Rylan) Dmytryshyn, Melissa (Raul) (Rosalina) Mercer-Rosales, Rebecca (David) (Mary) Helmer; siblings: Linda Levesque, Marianne (Fred) Holtsleg, Patricia (Robin) Deroo, Dennis (Bonnie) Mercer, James Mercer, Audrey (Wayne) Bahrey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Elizabeth Mercer; father-in-law, Alfred Ochs; brother, Ian Mercer; brother-in-law, Will Levesque; sister-in-law, Susan Mercer; nephew, Daniel Levesque; niece, Julia Mercer.
