****SERVICE DETAILS UPDATED**** – January 27, 2024
Our Wonderful father, grandpa, friend and brother, went on to be with the Lord on Monday, November 20, 2023. Born October 18, 1941 in Borden, SK. He was the 8th child of 11 siblings.
Early on he worked in farming until an accident left him with only five remaining fingers. He did caretaking of schools and churches; beet hoeing with family in the summers. After moving to North Battleford, he worked at Walmart in the garden center and as a greeter. After retiring he got ordained and officiated several weddings and funerals in the area.
At the age of 25 he married Helen Warkentine – she was widowed with five children. They later had another boy together. He loved all his children equally and recently was asked by nursing staff what his greatest accomplishment was; his face lit up as he said “my kids” without hesitation. We always said he fell in love with the kids as much as Helen, together they had 12 granddaughters, numerous great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He loved children and spent many years as a Boy Scout Leader and then worked with youth justice in Airdrie, AB. He was director at camp Harmattan and a kid’s camp counsellor and camp Grampa.
Henry was also well known for his joy in gardening and couldn’t stay away from tending to plants and flowers around him including the tower where he lived until this past summer. He spent time in Unity Hospital until he moved to St. Walburg Health Complex. He loved it there and got such wonderful care from the staff who all agreed he was a joy to be around, with his good spirits and sense of humor.
Henry was predeceased by his wife, Helen; son, Gordon and daughter, Darci Hiebert; as well as two daughters-in-law and five siblings.
Henry is remembered with love by his son, Lorne (Faith) Warkentine and their children: Danelle Warkentine, Joline Warkentine, Tifani (Mike) Freeman, Britani Madsen, Lea Arin Warkentine (Barry Ursaki); great-grandson, Ayden (Desiree) Warkentine; great-great-grandchildren: Charles & Isabelle and his beautiful granddaughters, Kaitlyn Hiebert.
Other surviving family left to miss him include his sons: Larry and David Hiebert and Darjo (Amanda) Hiebert; granddaughters: Janine, Holly, Angie, Rochelle, Sidney and Sawyer; great-grandchildren; brothers: Pete and Dave Hiebert and sisters: Nettie, Teena and Ann; many nieces and nephews who loved him.
