With great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Arland Wade Tootoosis on December 26,2023, at the age of 72. He leaves to mourn his children: Kyle (Vanessa), Jessica, Leander (Jamie) and Tia, his siblings: Glen, Paul, Doyle, Darrell, Helen, Dwight (Trina), Garnett (Wanda) and Lyndon; grandchildren and chapan and numerous relatives.
Arland was predeceased by his parents: Ernest and Amy Tootoosis; sister, Gladys Fox; brothers: Michael, Edmund, Basil and Jason Tootoosis and son-in-law, Wally (Walter) Deiter Jr.
Arland joined the US Navy 1969 – 1972. He was on a supply ship with hauled ful and munitions supplies to the troops on land. He was very proud that he served in the Vietnam war. Arland was never involved in the actual fighting, but was truly grateful that the closest he got was to see the artillery, mortars and rockets explode.
Arland was in the First Nations Veterans’ Association for 30 years; 22 yrs as the president of the North Battleford branch, 3 yrs as the vice president and 5 yrs as a member. Arland did a lot of good for the Association. He helped organize the annual golf tournament of Philip Ledoux and Virginia Pachowis. Whenever there was a Gala or fundraising event, Arland was always there as a true salesman. He was the kind of person that was hard to say no to. He would always disagree with whatever plan the Association was doing causing a fluster then he would laugh and agree. That’s the way he was. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
