It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Allen Howard Mitchell on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Allen passed away at the farm in Battleford, SK, at the beginning of what seemed to be an ordinary workday. Though his passing was unexpected, the impact of his life and the memories he leaves behind will remain with all who knew and loved him.
Allen will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 61 years, Jennette; his daughter, Shannon and her children: Blair (Rosalyn) and Kara (Terry); his son, Brent (Susan) and their children: Ryley (Carolina) and Brandon (Jory); and his son, Trevor (Tracey) and their children: Will and Myles. He will also be deeply missed by his eight great-grandchildren: Jordan, Mitchell, Beau, Rhett, Bentley, Tyler, Jared, Nolan and his first great-granddaughter, expected soon.
Allen was predeceased by his father, Alex; his mother, Clara; his brother, Leo (Bub); his sister, Pauline; his nephew, David Gislason; and his brothers-in-law: Kris Gislason and Bob Minish.
Allen’s life was rooted in the farmyard and in all that it represented: hard work, commitment, generosity, and pride. Whether he was tending to his mixed farming operation or, in more recent years, working at his sporting goods store, Allen was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed one. He was dependable, hardworking, and deeply connected to the people and places that shaped his life.
Beyond his work, Allen had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and for the communities built around it. He was well known and respected in the hunting, fishing, and shooting sports world, where he offered not only his knowledge, but also his time, encouragement, and leadership.
Allen found immense joy in watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in the sports they loved, celebrating their victories with pride and sharing in their disappointments with love and unwavering support.
Allen also found great joy in travel. He and Jennette, together with many dear friends, made treasured memories exploring remarkable places and sharing unforgettable experiences. While every journey held meaning, his recent trip to Scotland was especially dear to him and left a lasting impression on his heart.
Community involvement was an important part of Allen’s life. He gave generously of his time and energy to local, provincial, and national sport. Whether it was curling, hockey, figure skating, skiing, hunting and fishing, or the shooting sports, Allen was always willing to step forward and contribute his support, guidance, and leadership. He was also a strong advocate for education and served for many years as a dedicated member of the Battleford School Board.
To honour Allen’s memory and the values he carried throughout his life, the Allen Mitchell Memorial Shooting Sports and Community Leadership Scholarship has been established through a partnership between the Parkland Outdoor Show and Expo and the Mitchell family. The Parkland Outdoor Show and Expo held a special place in Allen’s heart. He was involved in its early planning and development and remained a proud part of it from its very first year. It is only fitting that a scholarship created in his name be connected to something that meant so much to him. In keeping with Allen’s spirit of community, leadership, and dedication, this scholarship will support young adults who have been involved in the any disciplined shooting sport, have shown volunteerism and leadership skills, and plan to pursue post-secondary education.
Donations to the Allen Mitchell Memorial Shooting Sports and Community Leadership Scholarship may be sent to donate@parklandoutdoor.com or made in person at the Celebration of Life.
The Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Alex Dillabough Centre, 432 27th St, Battleford.
