Father Albert Schmitz, Joe Schmitz (Barb), Wayne Schmitz (Clarice); in-laws: Ethel Schmitz and Don Izsak; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kelln; grandson, Lucas Kelln; her parents: Albert and Elizabeth Schmitz; and siblings: Ted Schmitz, Anna Pinkney and Louise Izsak.
Leona was born in Windthorst, Saskatchewan to Albert and Elizabeth Schmitz and was the oldest of 11 children. She became a Registered Nurse in 1952, a career where she found much love and many lifelong friends. She loved spending time with family and friends, being at the lake, sewing and needlework, the daily coffee friends meet ups, weekly bridge matches with the girls, and traveling when she was able. She has left her family with many gifts, none more valuable than her ability to always be there at the right time to give support, be a caring shoulder but also give feedback that you did not always want to hear, be a strong moral compass, and have the ability to listen without judgement. She was a very lovely lady with a calm demeanor and a friendship-first attitude. She will be remembered and missed by many who have had the pleasure to know her.
The family wish to thank the staff on the Palliative Unit at Battlefords Union Hospital, whose support and care for Leona helped her find comfort in her final days.
Cremation has taken place. No service is planned at this time but a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in memory of Leona may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan – 301-2550-12th Ave Regina, SK S4P 3X1, the Royal University Hospital Foundation – 103 Hospital Dr, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0W8 or to the donor’s choice.
