SERVICE UPDATE
It is with a saddened but joyful heart, that Laura Lee Newsted joined her parents in heaven on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. She died at the age of 70 and 11 months in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Laura Lee was born to Kenneth Edward and Laura (Ponto) Newsted in December 20, 1950 in Maidstone, Saskatchewan. She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Newsted) Snider, brother-in-law John Snider, and 2 nieces Kaitlin Bellion (Robert Kyle) and Rebecca Armstrong (Joseph), 3 great nieces Madeleine, Abigail, Lillian and a fourth great niece, soon to arrive, Landry. Laura Lee was born with severe brain damage and later it was also discovered that she had a chromosomal imbalance. She lived most of her life at Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 2018, she was transferred to a community home in Estevan when Valley View Centre was closed. While she never communicated with others in the normal ways, she was able communicate her needs to the ever present and loving staff that cared for her. She led the best possible life and she was happy, content and very well cared for. A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all the caretakers and advocates for Laura Lee over the years. Without them, Laura Lee would not have the loving quality of life she had.
A short graveside service will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in North Battleford, Saskatchewan at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 6, 2022 where she will be laid to rest beside her parents. The service will be officiated by Rev Dexter Van Dyck of the Third Ave United Church of Canada.
