Mr. Kenneth Walter Agrey passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the age of 92 years. The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Western Development Museum – Summer Hall, North Battleford, SK with Pastor Mark Agrey officiating. Interment will follow at the Parkside Cemetery, Parkside, SK.
Kenneth Walter Agrey was born May 5 ,1929 in a farmhouse near Shellbrook, SK to George and Elizabeth Agrey, the 8th of 11 children. Always being an early riser, he was in charge of lighting the fires for the day. His pay was a whopping 2 cents a day. He attended the Brightholme Country School and eventually the Parkside High School. Always the athlete, he loved playing any sport, but especially hockey and fastball. I think he could remember the score in every game he played and watched later in his life. As a teenager he was employed by several farmers in the area.
At age 22 (1951) Ken married his sweetheart Doreen Viberg and moved to Belbutte,SK where he worked for the Sask Wheat Pool as a Grain Buyer for the next 11 years. During this time, they were blessed with 3 daughters and 2 sons, so indeed it was a full and dynamic household.
In 1962 he was called to pastor a church in Hodgeville,SK and in 1966 was moved to
Meadow Lake to pastor The Pentecostal Lighthouse. Ken, as well as the rest of the family were treated royally by the congregation there. During this time, they released 2 gospel albums which were very well received by many of the churches in various parts of the western provinces. Many churches invited them to perform and minister to their congregations. Their music was thoroughly enjoyed at various functions as well.
Also, during this time Ken took the time to visit many families on The Flying Dust Reserve to share the gospel where many of the families responded and accepted Christ. He became friends with Frank and Neva Mirasty, George and Jenny Merasty, and Mary Desjarlais and they attended the church in Meadow Lake until a church was started on the reserve and is still thriving to this day.
In 1973 Ken and Doreen decided it was time to move to New Sarepta, Alberta where he delivered milk and dairy products in Edmonton. A couple of years later Ken was fortunate enough to buy his own schoolbus and route, which he owned and operated for several years. He also worked in the grocery department at Woodwards during the hours between his route.
In 1992 they made the full circle, decided to return to their roots and moved back to Be/butte, SK. During the next couple of decades they had the time to follow their grandkids’ sports and other school activities, including hockey, basketball, football, volleyball, music recitals and theatre productions. They took great pleasure and pride in watching and cheering kids on.
In 2010 they downsized and moved once again to an apartment in North Battle ford where they spent the next 9 years. Many friends and relatives met with them often at Tim Hortons, or The Coop Cafeteria. They were active in the church and a/so met many new friends during these years.
In 2019 Ken and Doreen moved to Red Deer to be closer to their family members. They have been living with Janice until the time of Ken’s passing.
Throughout all of his 92 years on earth Ken loved to share the gospel of Christ Jesus with everyone he met. Time with his family was cherished, and he was happy to be the center of attention at many of his milestone birthday and anniversary parties. This November would
have been their 70th wedding anniversary. He had a great interest in following sports teams, especially The Oilers. Ken kept active right up until he was taken to the hospital, by going for daily walks. Up until a few years ago. Ken and Doreen bowled and golfed with many different friends and relatives. Being so competitive he could never understand how Doreen could always beat him in bowling!
He passed from this world into his eternal life in heaven on September 26, 2021 after a short illness in The Red Deer Hospital with Janice at his side singing hymns to him. He left us with a smile on his face and a song in his heart!
