It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Elder Katie Weenie. Katie was born on the Poundmaker Cree Nation on February 28th, 1933 to William and Mary Weenie.
Katie was a very traditional person, she was a very strong hard worker. Katie instilled on her traditional values at a young age, and passed those teachings and values to her children and grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
Katie kept busy cooking, cleaning, gathering food and gathering fire wood for her great bannock. She made her own clothes and taught the grandchildren how to be independent. She cared for family and encouraged those around her to be honest and speak the truth and from the heart; and also to be kind and love one another.
Katie liked to attend sundances and ceremonies. She liked to play Western 6/49, saying she was going to win a million dollars. She liked to play bingo as well. She was proud of herself in everything she did. Katie will be missed by all her family and friends.
Funeral service for Katie will be November 11th, 2021 11 a.m. at Poundmaker Veteran’s Hall
