Josephine Violet May (Johnston) Hayward

Born in Welwyn, Saskatchewan to Violet and Willie Johnston May 23rd, 1929. Predeceased by her siblings Everett Johnston, Gladys Clegg, Thelma Huffman, Howard Olsen and Gerald Olsen. Also predeceased by her husband of 67 years Russel Hayward, daughter Colleen. Leaving behind son Stuart and grandchildren Blake Hayward and Lacey Douglas, daughter Shirley, grand son Jesse Hayward, grand daughter Vanessa Hayward, great grand daughters Jordan Hunt-Hayward and Katana Hunt-Hayward.
She moved to the Kelfield area in 1935 where she schooled and told many stories of times helping with threshing crews and the wonderful times of rural life in Saskatchewan. She spent time in sawmill in Nipawin with her sister helping her father for several winters cooking for the crews. Later she moved to the Unity area where she worked in the hospital. In Unity she met Russel Hayward and they married in August 1952, later moved to Turtleford where Russel ran the butcher shop and locker plant. They moved into North Battleford in 1970 and remained there till Russel’s retirement. From there they lived at Kopp’s Cove on Turtle Lake until moving back to North Battleford in 2008.
At her request no service is being held and interment will be in Unity beside Russel. Condolences for the family can be left at www.eternalmemoriesfuneral.ca Arrangements have been entrusted to Trevor Watts of Eternal Memories Funeral Service & Crematorium.
