It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Jacob (Jake) Pete on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. Jacob passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon (SK) following a brief illness.
Jacob was born on April 12, 1941 to Myra and Ernest Pete of Little Pine First Nation. Jacob’s traditional name was, kahpahsehweyasit, (ringing in the air, a fluttery noise). Jacob was predeceased by sister Yvonne, brother Anderson, and sister Sonja. He leaves to mourn his brother Ron, and sisters Adele, Loretta, Marvina, Lorraine, Arlene, brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jake is lovingly remembered by his partner, Noreen Osborne. He leaves his adult children, Shauneen (Darcy), Charlene (Calvin) and Jeff (Paula) in the care of their mother, Eileen Pete. Jake greatly loved his grandchildren Alina (Layne), Jordan, Tara (Abel), Coleman, Carter and Caylin and he was thrilled upon the arrival of Aurelia, his first great grandchild.
Jake was proud of the years he served in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Following his policing career he dedicated decades to business innovation and partnership development to enhance First Nations communities. He was dedicated to community wellness and safety within the Little Pine First Nation. Jake was at his happiest when planning for his next great presentation and the actions that would lead to the betterment of all First Nations peoples.
A family viewing will be held at Sallows & McDonald, Wilson & Zehner Funeral Home (1271 103 Street, North Battleford) on Friday, Dec. 18 between 1-4. We request that families (groups less than 10) meet briefly for viewing. To ensure everyone’s safety during this pandemic, we will not have a service at this time, but will instead opt to gather at a later time for a celebration of Jacob’s life.
As per Jake’s wishes, cremation will be followed by a private family burial at Little Pine First Nation on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 1pm.
