Our mother, grandmother, sister, and auntie was a woman that we want remembered for how she lived and how she really was. Gloria was one of the
warmest and most generous individuals that we’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. Her happiest moments were when visitors arrived. Whether it was her children, grandchildren, chapans, family or friends, she relished the time together. You could guarantee that there was a lot of food and everyone would be fed before they left. Just sitting and talking, reminiscing about days gone by provided an opportunity to learn family or community history. Gloria was a wealth of information, and a proud knowledge keeper of our cultural traditions. Gloria’s house and yard at the town site became a ‘hub’ for many children. Any
hungry child was fed and with every hurt child, Gloria brought out her first aid kit and bandaged up the child who was then ready to play. She adopted many of her children’s friends that proudly called her mom. Anytime they needed to talk, they’d call or visit. Gloria would sit and listen, and sometimes provided very
sound advice. In spite of everything that was going on in their lives her favorite saying was “Don’t worry, be happy.”
Gloria was raising four of her grandchildren and oh, how she loved these children. Melia (Melia), McKinley (Munch), Jordana and the love of her life Avery.
Gloria was a very cultural woman who believed in passing down and sharing what she knew. She strongly believed in prayer, smudging and ceremonies and had been actively involved in the Sundance and Horse dance. Gloria was a beautiful woman, always with a smile on her face and a kind word. We are so grateful for the time that we had with her. She really was loved so much and will be sadly missed.
