Elsie Soiseth (nee Nissen) was born on her parents’ farm north of Speers, Saskatchewan, on December 11, 1927. On August 12, 1949, Elsie married Jasper Soiseth. They lived and farmed within a mile of her parents’ homestead for the next 30 years. In late 1976, they “semi-retired” and moved to the Battlefords where they spent the balance of their retirement. Much of those golden days were filled with camping, fishing, and travelling.
Elsie’s final years were spent on her own living independently at Caleb Village in North Battleford. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, setting puzzles, and staying on top of current events. But Elsie’s biggest love was visiting with her family. She cherished the visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and spent many hours every week with her daughter Dani.
Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Harald and Elise Nissen; her sister, Marie (Art) Soiseth; and Elsie’s husband Jasper Soiseth, who passed away in 2004.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Dani (Rick) Wheeldon; grandchildren, Carmen Wheeldon and Russell (Melissa) Wheeldon; and great grandchildren, Madison Wheeldon and Lincoln Wheeldon; plus numerous in-laws, nephews, and nieces.
At this time, there are no plans for a memorial service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. Condolences for the family can be made at www.eternalmemoriesfuneral.ca Arrangements have been entrusted to Trevor Watts of Eternal Memories Funeral Service & Crematorium.
