Joseph Edouard Albert Samson, “Ed”
It is with deep sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of a truly wonderful man, whose presence was a pillar of strength, kindness, and integrity within our community.
Ed was born on March 30, 1940, on the home farm in Capasin, Saskatchewan. He attended school in Capasin, Beau Vallon, and then in Leoville. Ed had several jobs in his lifetime including washing dishes at the hospital in North Battleford, working at Vimy Fire Tower, and working in Timmons, Ontario while staying with relatives. He also worked at the Credit Union in Leoville and eventually became the bank’s Manager. Ed also served as Leoville’s mayor several times and was a volunteer firefighter. After retiring from the Credit Union, he continued to stay active by helping friends with farming on a part-time basis.
On July 4th, 1963, Ed married Diane Pelletier who was teaching in Leoville. Ed and Diane welcomed three daughters, Aimée, Michelle, and Mona. Ed and his family lived a busy life in the community of Leoville. Ed enjoyed family time, fishing, hunting, family vacations, making homemade wine, and volunteering with various community groups. Music was a huge part of Ed’s life, and he was the conductor of the church choir for many years. He was a true entertainer whether he was playing in bands or performing in countless community events. His greatest pride was to be Pépère /Papa to eight beautiful grandchildren of whom he was very proud.
Ed lived a life of service, to his family, his community, and his Parish. A devoted family man, he led by example, teaching the values of compassion, hard work, humility, and faith. His love for his family was evident in everything he did. Known for his quiet leadership, generous spirit, and unwavering sense of responsibility, he gave selflessly of his time and heart. His influence touched countless lives, and his legacy will live on.
Though we mourn his passing, we are grateful for the years we were blessed to have him in our lives. Ed’s life was a testament to the power of love and service, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
