Don is predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Harvey in 2015; son, Craig Harvey in 2024; parents: Everett Harvey in 1987 & Gertrude Harvey in 1997.
Don was born on October 29, 1940 in Kindersley. He spent his early years first on the family farm near Flaxcombe where his Grandfather Harvey had homesteaded in 1909 and later in the town of Flaxcombe. In 1944 he moved with his parents to a farm just west of Rosetown. Don referred to himself as a farm boy, even though town was just 1 mile east. Don attended public school at Stewart School (1-8), Smith School (9) and Rosetown Composite High School (10-12). Don then went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1963 at the University of Saskatchewan.
Don married Phyllis Ehlert of Watson in 1961. She was able to earn her PHT Diploma (Putting Hubby Through) while Don finished his degree. In 1963 they moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland where he was employed by the Department of Highways. Their daughter Jeanne was born in 1964. While they enjoyed their time, the ocean just wasn’t like the prairies and they returned to the farm in Rosetown in 1966. Their son Craig was born that same year. Don was involved with many organizations, including Rosetown Curling Club and Rosetown Golf Club. He also served as a Reeve for the RM of St. Andrews from 1981 to 1985 and was a member of the BPO Lodge #123.
In his early years, Don worked from January to April at Morley Aseltine’s Law Office preparing tax returns. Life seemed to revolve around the farm, but they always made time for summer trips to his parents cottage at Waskesiu, outings to Clearwater Lake, and family treks to Watson for a weekend of goose and duck hunting.
Along with Wally Epp in 1985, Don ventured into opening a successful machinery & vehicle business named Waldon Sales Ltd. (renamed to All West Sales in 1989). Don oversaw the financial side while Wally and their partners Jim, Joe, Daryl, Murray and Durwood, each played an integral role within day-to-day operations.
From 1997 onwards, Don & Phyllis transitioned into a more relaxed lifestyle becoming Canadian snowbirds and enjoying their winters at Tri Palm Estates & Country Club in Thousand Palms, California. They returned to Canada to spend their summers at their cabin at Bayview Heights on Jackfish Lake.
Most recently, Don happily spent much of his time with Isabel in California, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He loved to wait patiently to capture photos and video of the many species of wildlife on her property near the Assiniboine River outside of Winnipeg. They shared a special bond and enjoyed each other’s company. Don made many memories with Isabel’s children, grandchildren and great grand-children.
Don equally loved both curling and golfing. He continued to golf well into his 80’s. More often than not, he was able to beat his age on his scorecard! He had an amazing memory for facts, numbers and names. He loved keeping his mind active. Woodworking, drawing, watching golf and baseball, designing and drafting were some of his favourite hobbies. Don loved visiting with everyone, especially his precious great-grandchildren. He will be missed immensely by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosetown and District Civic Centre, 1005 Main Street, Rosetown, SK. Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating the life of Don.
