It is with great sadness that the family of Dan Joseph Godfrey announce his passing on Thursday, March 31st, 2022 with his family by his side at Battlefords Union Hospital at the age of 77 years.

As per Dan’s wishes and Covid still lingering in the community, the funeral will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022 for close family and friends by invite only and we strongly recommend wearing a mask in-doors for those in attendance.

Dan leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his loving wife of 56 years, Carol; son, Dean (Terri) Godfrey and family: Kyla (Mitch) and Bennitt, Taylor (Brock) and Paisley, Danielle (Mitch) and Kassian; daughter, Joann Melnyk (Kevin) and family: Tessie Oberding, Brooklynn Oberding, Mike and Madison Melnyk.

Left also to mourn is Dan’s brother-in-law, Omer Iverson, his cherished nieces and nephews: Randy and Shannon Iverson and their families: Ryley (Jasmine) and Alyssa and her children: Ava and Evie; Melanie Iverson, Russell and Donna Iverson and their children: Sarah and Jaxon; and Kylee and Travis Erker and their children: Chelsey and Dyson.

Dan was predeceased by his parents: Arthur and Hilda Godfrey and his sister, June Iverson in 2016.

Dan was born May 29th, 1944 in Regina, SK and spent his first 2 years in an Orphanage, he was then adopted by Arthur and Hilda Godfrey and spent his early childhood years on the farm at Langmeade, SK. Dan lost his father when he was only 10 years old and from a very young age, Dan worked hard to assist his Mom and his younger sister. In his teenage years, Dan worked on many neighbouring farms. At the young age of 19, Dan left the family farm to work on the pipeline. Upon his return to North Battleford, Dan joined Standard Mineral Water Works (Coca-Cola) where he spent the next 31.5 years working under the guidance of Mr. Williard Coates.  Due to Dan’s incredible work ethic and ambition, he was able to work his way up from the bottling floor into Management.

Dan enjoyed many hobbies, such as restoring and buying and selling vehicles, wood-working, hunting and fishing. There wasn’t anything that Dan couldn’t fix as he was mechanically inclined from a very young age. If he couldn’t find a part to fix something, he would simply build the part. He even built his own wood-splitter. His garage was his castle, he spent countless hours fixing, restoring, rebuilding and being the Go-To for all his friends and family for any type of mechanical repair.

Dan and Carol enjoyed their 19 years spent living year-round at Pelican Point, Murray Lake after spending a short time in Warman, SK. While living at Murray Lake, Dan was actively involved in Council for the Village Hamlet of Pelican Point and volunteered countless hours alongside Jack Day, to maintain and care for the water treatment plant. Dan also cut every blade of grass and snowplowed every flake of snow in the Hamlet for a number of years. A task he took such great pride in.

Dan and Carol married on August 28th, 1965 and spent 56 years together sharing many similar interests and countless laughs. Dan and Carol especially loved playing “Condo Cards” with their many friends at their condominium, Territorial Estates.

Dan will be forever missed by all that knew him and were fortunate to be loved by him. The family would like to thank the many health care professionals involved in Dan’s care over the years and especially to Dr. James Johnson, who cared for him for many years and for the Physicians and Nurses that allowed him to pass peacefully, Dr. Hari Hullur and Dr. Erik Engelbrecht.
