It is with great sadness we must announce the passing of Bernadette “Berny” Suchan (March 14, 1961- May 12, 2020) after an intense and heart-wrenchingly short battle with pancreatic cancer on the palliative ward at the Battlefords Union Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Murray Suchan, and their 3 children, Jessica, Roxanne (Ryan Bedient), and Vincent. She adored her two grandsons through Roxanne, Anthony Bedient (6) and James Bedient (3). She leaves behind two elder sisters, Audrey Frey and Delores Duchcherer, three elder brothers, Dennis Frey (Laura), Ron Frey (Judy), and Walter Frey (Gloria), and sister-in-law Joan Frey. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Berny is predeceased by her parents, Vincent and Katherine Frey, elder brother James Frey , elder sisters Francis Sander (Stephen) and Margaret Ross, and Glenn Duchcherer.
Berny will be remembered for her generous, loving heart, beautiful garden, and delicious cooking. She’s cultivated many lasting friendships in every place she’s lived – Wilkie, Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Nipawin, and North Battleford.
Berny fought as long and hard as she could and stayed aware for her last days in palliative care. We are grateful Berny’s last days were comfortable, due in large part to the dedicated staff on the palliative care ward, and surrounded by family.
We thank you all for all your words of support, thoughts and prayers. We ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society to give more weapons and support to the ongoing war against cancer. A service for Berny will be held at a later date due to Covid-19 regulations.
