Battle River Indigenous Relations Council Inc. (BRIRC) is a non-profit membership corporation located in North Battleford, SK. Our members include Lucky Man Cree Nation, Little Pine First Nation and Moosomin First Nation. Our objective is the advancement and protection of the member Nations’ Treaty and Inherent rights, culture and way of life. This may include Crown consultation, building governance capacity, and any other matters that arise on the direction of Chief and Councils.
Description of position: Provides administrative and secretarial support for the BRIRC Director. Also supports our projects and activities in all our member Nations.
- Works under the direction of and reports to the BRIRC Director
- Primary administrative support for the BRIRC, responding to the Director’s requests
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of the BRIRC’s correspondence, documents and client information
- Develop capacity of the organization to manage administrative duties
- The Administration Coordinator will work to effectively carry out all duties that relate to the efficient administration of the BRIRC
- Support BRIRC and community meetings, including preparing materials and drafts, picking up supplies, making checklists, managing attendance from start to finish, supporting community engagement, taking notes and other activities as needed
- Organize and secure event, travel and accommodation arrangements for the BRIRC and other staff as directed by the BRIRC Director
- Represent BRIRC professionally and proficiently with community, government and industry
- Format, compose and draft agendas and meeting notes; ensure appropriate distribution and follow-up
- Maintaining a filing system
- Perform daily receptionist duties, answer phones, greet visitors, transcribe, and transmit messages.
- Prioritize schedules, timelines and meeting dates for the BRIRC
- Document, handle or refer problems, complaints, messages, incoming and outgoing information
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy, neatness, and precision
- Provide support for preparation of all levels of documentation to maintain established standards
- Maintain competent knowledge of administration and personnel activities
- Responsible for updating, indexing, filing and general maintenance of all reference material
- Operate computer, specified programs (including Office Suite) and printers with proficiency
- Develop drafting skills for correspondence and briefing notes
- Working with the Director to assist in the financial reporting of the BRIRC
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Strong written, computer and verbal communication skills
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint and Excel), social media
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges
- Takes initiative and can operate independently, as well as part of a team
- Audio visual equipment skills (setting up mic and speaker, projector and screen)
- Valid Drivers’ Licence
- Ability to travel overnight and out of province
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check
Assets
- Familiarity with subject matter of Treaty and Inherent rights, self-governance, education, health, lands and cumulative impacts, culture and language
- Staff/public relations experience
- Spoken and/or written Cree
This is a full-time position with health and other benefits. The successful candidate will be required to work in the BRIRC office from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Compensation:
This position will be compensated at up to $25/hour, depending on skills and experience.
