Saskatchewanderer Job Opening

Oct 3, 2016 | 8:17 AM

Do you want the best job ever in 2017?

Start applying October 12 at noon. Applications close November 7 at noon.

The Job:

We are looking for the next Saskatchewanderer.

The Ministries of Parks Culture and Sport, Economy, Agriculture and Tourism Saskatchewan are looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing self-starter with a love for social media and a passion for Saskatchewan.

We want you to live, work and play in Saskatchewan from January to December of 2017. And we don’t expect you to do it for free—we’re prepared to pay our Saskatchewanderer between $55,000 and $60,000 per year.

We want you to discover the people and places that make our province the diverse, vibrant place that it is. The 2016 Saskatchewanderer, Neil Fisher, travelled to Selwyn Lake in Northern Saskatchewan to fish, explore the Athabasca Sand Dunes and see the largest waterfall in Saskatchewan. Neil visited the Richardson farm near Delisle, learning what a year in the life of a Saskatchewan farmer is like, and he also spent a day with Kristen McAdam, an aircraft maintenance engineer in La Ronge who helps protect communities threatened by fire by keeping the province’s fleet of air tankers in the air.

Neil shared all of these experiences through videos, photos and written posts. We want you to do just that. But we want you to find new people, new businesses and new spots to satisfy those suffering from a little Saskatchewanderlust.

Where will you wander?

Help develop a calendar of events and then hit the road to collect video, take pictures and write stories about your experiences.

As a Saskatchewan ambassador, you will promote our province to the world, showing what it’s like to live, work and play in our province. Some of your responsibilities will include: choosing locations and events to explore, setting up and conducting interviews, shooting and editing video, writing stories and populating a blog, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with high-quality content that shows off the best of Saskatchewan. You will need to be able to work well independently, since most of the time you’ll be on the road on your own.

Saskatchewanderer Education, Skills and Assets:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as journalism, film, communications, marketing or English preferred but not required
  • Experience shooting and editing video
  • Experience writing and taking pictures
  • Knowledge of basic marketing principles, social media  principles, computer and AV equipment
  • Experience speaking in public

Saskatchewanderer Abilities:

  • Identify messaging and timing for blog, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram updates
  • Maintain a strong online presence through charismatic presentation
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and an online audience

  • Plan and balance diverse and conflicting workload pressures; ability to accept direction while working with various project partners

  • Represent Saskatchewan in a positive way

In your video (2 minutes or less!), show us what makes you the best potential Saskatchewanderer. The video is important, outstanding videos usually lead to interviews.  And don’t forget to indicate in your resume where you have acquired your knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully carry out the role of the Saskatchewanderer.

Once we’ve reviewed the applications, we’ll create our interview shortlist. When the interview process is complete, we will contact and later announce the successful candidate.

Only candidates who are shortlisted for an interview will be contacted.
