vitation to attend Autism – Endless Possibilities Conference, Monday, May 30th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Heritage Inn in Moose Jaw.

This workshop will appeal to professionals, parents, foster parents, police, social services, teachers, school administrators, early childhood educators, educational assistants, daycare workers, consultants.

Come and learn the basics of autism and strategies for working with individuals with autism presented by Layne Pethick.   Join in the discussion to gain a better understanding of children with autism and their needs and appropriate strategies for working with children and youth who are autistic.

Layne Pethick is an Autism Spectrum Disorders and Behavior Consultant for the state of Texas.  He is currently a PhD candidate and has a Master’s degree in Special Education with a concentration in ASD and E/BD, along with degrees in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and Reading.

Layne has experience as a general and special education teacher, school administrator, district trainer, program director, a professor of special education, assessment, early childhood and teacher education.  He has several articles published and has presented at local, state, national and international conferences.

Session 1: Basics of Autism – Everything you need to know about persons with Autism and their needs across the youth spectrum.

Lunch: On your own

Session 2: Strategies – Behavior, inclusion, other students/parents, bullying, PECS vs Sign, technology, sensory, social stories, visual strategies, environment, self-regulation

Objectives:

  • Highlight and create a better understanding of needs of children with Autism and the things we can do to create the best outcomes for them. 
  • Create a network of parents/grandparents and professionals
  • To facilitate and enhance interdisciplinary collaboration
  • To share current thinking
