Wilkie Elks snowmobile rally raising community funds

Feb 10, 2017 | 12:54 PM

The Wilkie Elks Snowmobile/ATV rally is once again raising money for the community.

The Elks is a national organization with the mission of serving community needs across Canada.

According to Eugene Hartter, Wilkie Elks member, the funds they raise will go in numerous directions.

“We support our national charity at the Elks Canada and our main fund for children,” Hartter said. “And then the other stuff we do locally, like we support the library for magazine subscriptions, we donate to the school, we actually just did one last night for the science fair.”

The rally, on Feb. 11, will help them fund their ongoing community work.

Last year, with 130 riders the event raised upwards of $15,000. This year, they’re hoping the turnout is just as good, with the warm weather and riders coming from all over the province.

“Well I know there’s some that come as far Kindersley, some from North Battleford, Unity, Macklin, East of Biggar, and Cando,” Hartter said. “So yeah they come, generally, from a good 100 mile radius of Wilkie.”

The 43-mile event will feature a hotdog roast, ham supper, cash prizes for the top three spots, and door prizes.

Registration for the Feb. 11 rally starts at 11 a.m. at the Wilkie Wildlife Building.
