Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program celebrates with week of activities

The Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP) is celebrating Saskatchewan ECIP week with activities at the Natural Play Space at Centennial Park.

Local ECIP executive director Colleen Sabraw said a variety of giveaways were held during the week, which is wrapping up Sept. 18.

Sabraw added the local program board of directors have been helpful in developing more opportunities for children in the Battlefords.

“A big hurrah to my board members,” she said. “I have seven of them, and we meet monthly. They are just a good group of dedicated individuals that I like to pay honour to as well this week.”

The Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program offers support to families with children who are developmentally delayed or at risk for delay, the organization’s website states.

The City of North Battleford and the Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program partnered to build the Natural Play Space, which opened in 2018, that helps with a child’s development and cognitive skills.

Sabraw thanked the city’s Recreation Department crews for all their help with the project.

The Natural Play Space offers children an opportunity to explore a variety of types of textures, such as pathways, sand and grass.

The site features Expression swings, also known as Mommy and Me swings, where children can sit facing their parent or caregiver, as well as the Liberty Swing that offers support for individuals using a wheelchair.

Just recently another type of swing was installed that provides a back and full support for children ages 9 and over.

“They can sit in there quite comfortably and be safe,” Sabraw said.
