Best Casual Dining: Beaver Grill

Nov 6, 2018 | 12:20 PM

Local business owners Howard and Rachel Lee took the 2018 BOB awards by storm, capturing seven awards between their two businesses.

The Lee’s, owners of Beaver Grill Express and Cafe 4 U, earned Best Business Lunch, Best Casual Dining, Best Ethnic Food, Best Lunch and Best Service for Beaver Grill Express, their restaurant that just moved on top of the Twin Rivers Curling Club.

The two owners previously owned a restaurant in Surrey, BC, before making the jump over to Saskatchewan and the Battlefords area. When coming in to the community, they had high hopes for the community. When moving here, they wanted a tight, close knit community to serve and showcase the family restaurant atmosphere.

Upon the move, they realized that they were up against tighter competition, as the Battlefords has six Asian restaurants, and they knew their service needed to be top notch for the community to buy in to their new place.

They set out to make their restaurant stand out with their top notch service, delicious food, reasonable prices, and creating an atmosphere that shone through and made people want to continue to come back. The couple were confident in their philosophy that once people come in and try their food once, or just meet them, that their business would flourish thanks to their customer service.

They began at the Beaver Hotel, and following their two years of operation there, they then needed a new place to run their business. The couple began looking at properties, and settled on the Twin Rivers Curling Club. Their restaurant, which is located just above the main viewing area of the Curling rink, is an extremely inviting atmosphere. The move was big, and they were worried about their clientele following them to the new location.

The part the couple is extremely proud about is, it didn’t matter.

The clientele followed them and continued to come in and experience their atmosphere, food, and service. The five BOB awards shows how their customers still come in and enjoy the restaurant.

AS for people who haven’t been able to come in and check out the Beaver Grill Express, the Lee’s say just come in and give it a shot. They will win not only you, but your taste buds over as well.

Cafe 4 U is the couple’s second business in the Battlefords. The coffee shop is down town on 101st Street, and ended up scooping up two BOB awards this year in the Best Coffee Shop and Best New Business Categories.

The main idea behind opening the coffee shop was to bring an area into the Battlefords that had been lacking, a place where people can sit down, socialize, get their work done, in a laid back, quiet setting. Their area gives people the opportunity to get together in a positive, safe space and get whatever they need to do, done.

Between the two businesses, and the seven 2018 BOB Awards, the couple is shaping up to be two of the most successful business owners in the Battlefords. They hope to continue to grow, and serve the people of the area in their two outlets.

All people have to do is come in, and let Rachel and Howard take care of you.
