Best Produce: Discovery Co-Op

If you’re looking for top-quality fresh produce from all over the world, and knowledgeable staff who are willing to go above and beyond for their customers, then look no further than the produce department at Discovery Co-Op in North Battleford.

Recently named as the Best Produce in the area for the Best of the Best Awards, the staff in the produce department take a certain pride each and every day in the products they provide for every customer.

“We pride ourselves on our product quality. We’re constantly making sure we have the best and freshest produce for our customer,” said Corey Weedmark, produce manager at Discovery Co-Op.

With top-quality local product available, as well as various produce from all over the world, there is often items there that are not usually found in the winter, such as nectarines and peaches.

Items are often brought in from faraway places such as Africa, Chile, New Zealand, Australia and more to ensure customers have all of their produce needs met, whatever the time of year.

And the staff in the produce department doesn’t just order in the product, they also create many of the items you will see on the shelves.

“We do all our own fresh fruit trays and vegetable trays and more in house. We do special order trays as well,” said Weedmark.

But beyond having the freshest fruits and vegetables from Saskatchewan-grown products and beyond, the staff in the produce department at Discovery Co-Op also bring a wealth of information for their customers.

“A lot of our staff are very knowledgeable as well. We have some people that have been here for a long time, so we have a lot of experience behind us in our department,” said Weedmark.

With 11 dedicated produce staff, many of the staff have several years’ experience, and some with more than 20 years, so you can be sure if you have any kind of produce-related question, there will be a staff member on hand that can give you expert advice.

“We try to be out there for our customer and they have any questions they can ask and we always have an answer for them,” he added. “We’re here at 5:30 in the morning till 9 p.m. to make our counters look they best they can.”

And going above and beyond for the customer is a big reason why Discovery Co-Op was chosen as Best Produce. On many days, special orders or requests are brought to the staff, and if they can make it happen, they will.

“We are the type of company that will go above and beyond to help a customer,” explained Weedmark.

“There’s always someone around to help the customer, who are willing to help if customer has a question. We never say we don’t know, we will find someone who has the answer for them.”
