Even with Zach Collaros back in the picture, Roughriders head coach Chris Jones doesn’t seem to want to commit to a starting quarterback.

Or at least to admit it publicly.

The struggling Riders offence is getting a bit of a boost.

Quarterback Zach Collaros was taken off the six-game injured list a few weeks earlier than expected, after being sidelined with a concussion in the second week of the season.

Back in June when the Roughriders signed Mic’hael Brooks, many wondered why the team needed another defensive lineman.

Already stacked with stars like Willie Jefferson, Charleston Hughes and Zack Evans, it didn’t exactly appear necessary, but for Jones it was a no-brainer.

After forcing a fumble, Charleston Hughes runs 57 yards down field for a touchdown in the Roughriders 18-13 win over the Tiger-Cats on July 5, 2018.

It was late in the second quarter, the score was 4-0 for Hamilton and the Roughriders needed a spark.

The offence had been struggling, rotating between Brandon Bridge and David Watford seemingly at random, and something needed to be done.

Enter Charleston Hughes.

Zach Collaros took a pounding in Thursday night’s game against the Ottawa Redblacks and now he’ll miss significant time because of it.

Canadian quarterback Brandon Bridge will start in Collaros’ place for the foreseeable future.
