Local community leaders pick up Canada 150 awards

Nine Battlefords volunteers and community leaders were honoured with Canada 150th anniversary medals and certificates yesterday, for giving their best to boost their community.

New blacksmith's shop coming to Fred Light Museum

Battleford's Fred Light Museum is seeing some new growth as it constructs a new blacksmith's shop for the local tourist attraction.

Board member Dan Schweitzer said it's good to see the museum continue to stay strong.

Residential School survivors to be honoured with Orange Shirt Day

Locals will join Residential School survivors this week to honour them in a special ceremony. 

The event is part of national Orange Shirt Day, to raise awareness about a dark part of Canada's history when many Indigenous children were subjected to abuse.

Memorial golf fundraiser hits new high

Junior golfers took to the course to support fellow children in need.

The second annual Brian Maunula Memorial Junior Golf Tournament took place Sunday and raised over $25,000 to benefit the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation.

Sakewew school hosts Gender, Sexuality Alliance support barbecue, Terry Fox run

Sakewew High School students showed a combined effort to support the Terry Fox Foundation this year.

Roughly 25 people including staff and teachers joined in a run and walk for the cause at 11 a.m. on Friday.
