Christmas Spirit Day back in the Battlefords

Dec 13, 2018 | 1:00 PM

It’s time to dust off your Christmas sweaters and get into the holiday spirit.

Battlefords United Way is holding their second-annual Christmas Spirit Day in the city, where businesses can have employees dress up in their favourite Christmas attire, including Santa, elves, and ugly Christmas sweaters.

Rose Silzer-Quinn, events and campaign coordinator for Battlefords United Way said following their successful first year, raising around $1,000, they’re excited to see what people have in store for the second year.

“It’s a way for (us) to reach out to the business community and encourage everyone to have a little fun while supporting the United Way,” she said. “Christmas can be a stressful time and we want to bring the joy and the spirit back into it through our event.”

Thus far this year, the Battlefords United Way hasn’t been getting the support they had hoped for. They know that there is an alarming need for the community, and want to make sure that people that need the money, get the money. To participate, it’s $5 per person and the winning business will receive a pizza party donated by the Blend Restaurant and Bar.

Silzer-Quinn hopes that businesses in the Battlefords will be able to step up their game.

“Our campaign funding is down at a time where the community is desperately in need,” she said. “Those needs are growing, so we’re asking for everyone to reach a little deeper.”

All people need to do after the donation, is take a photo of their staff and post them on the Facebook page for BUW. From there, they will choose a winner of the pizza party. Silzer-Quinn says they’re not picky when it comes to what people dress up as, as long as they are happy with what they’re presenting. She had one closing statement for people when it comes to the giving season, to make sure that everyone gets what they deserve around the holiday season.

“Please keep it coming, be generous,” she said. “Please give as much as you can.”
