NBCHS Drama Club presents: A Christmas Carol

Dec 12, 2018 | 1:00 PM

North Battleford Comprehensive High School’s (NBCHS) Drama Club is hosting A Christmas Carol tonight at the Dekker Centre.

Featuring 35 students ranging in age from Grades 7 to 12, the drama club wasted no time in getting ready for tonight’s production, as the ensemble has been rehearsing three days-a-week after school since the second week in September, plus an additional Saturday practice once a month, with the students offering up time on the weekend for a full day of rehearsal, all in lead up to the big show this evening.

Renee Storgard, who’s been a director with the school’s productions the last five years, said the group’s dedication and hard work the last three-plus months is a great reason to attend the show.

“I think it’s just a great community event to see our young kids doing such a positive thing,” she said. “People will see how much time and how much work and effort our kids actually do, because we make all our props, we make all our sets, and we make all our costumes, and I think it’s good for the community to see the positive things that are happening.”

Storgard said for those perhaps unaware of the story, the audience can expect to see a family-friendly narrative of hope all ages can enjoy.

In addition to the production itself, silent auction items will be up for bid on the night, along with raffles held and dessert sales, with proceeds going towards funding future productions held by the drama club.

Storgard said the high school is extremely grateful for the support of the community, as well as the parents who have played an integral role in the evening to come.

“Because we have quite a big club, 35 kids is a big group, we have that many [more] parents involved and the parents are really great at rallying around us and making sure their kids are there [giving rides to practices] while also providing all the items for the silent auction,” she said. “The items are all donated from them and they get businesses to help as well, so the support [has] been pretty good for NBCHS.”

The drama club’s production of A Christmas Carol tonight at the Dekker Centre will begin at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
