NBCKB feeling The Magic of Christmas

Dec 6, 2018 | 7:00 AM

Just in time for the holidays, the North Battleford City Kinsmen Band is getting set for their first big performance of the year.

“The Magic of Christmas” performance is set for December 9 and 10, with the senior band playing Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and the remaining bands playing on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

They will be playing all of the favourites, like Sleigh Ride, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, and Silent Night. There will be some pieces that the band has been working on thus far this fall, including an arrangement of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and the Washington Post March.

Michael Alstad is the NBCKB’s new director and general manager, and is excited for not only the bands first performance as a whole of the year, but his first big performance back in the Battlefords in quite some time.

“It’s always interesting for that first performance,” he said. “It adds another level of excitement. The groups are playing well, and everybody is really excited to share what we’re doing with the music.”

The band is also going to be giving back to the community, using their performances to benefit the Empty Stocking Fund. The band members are already bringing in non perishable food items, as well as toys, that will be displayed under their trees in their decorations at the Band Hall.

Alstad knows that as performers, they’re put in a unique place to give back to the community that they display their talents for.

“We always think that when were in band, we have opportunities that are wonderful for us,” he said. “We get to share our talent with the community, but its also nice to do what we can to support other types of things in the community.”

Each performance will be an hour in length, and admission for each night is $5.
