Highway winter weight permissions in effect

Dec 3, 2018 | 10:01 AM

Heavier loads are now allowed on some of the province’s highways. The changes went into effect at midnight.

Winter weights will be going into effect for secondary highways in north and central Saskatchewan. The extra weight is now allowed as the cold weather conditions have led to ground freezing permitting roads to support more weight.

Generally, winter weights last until mid-December. In a media release, Minister of Highways, Lori Carr said brining in winter weights is important for Saskatchewan’s economy given the province’s location.

“When shippers can travel on secondary highways with primary weight, they are able to move more goods and help our economy grow,” she said.
