Boys & Girls Club annual fundraising gala ‘nothing short of amazing’

Youth in the community will have the opportunity for a once in a lifetime experience following the annual Battlefords Boys & Girls Club fundraiser, which Executive Director Nicole Combres simply described as “nothing short of amazing.”

Thursday night, at the Denim & Diamonds gala, over $69,234 was raised to back the programming and services provided by the organization, which Combres said was the most successful night in at least five years.

“The amount of generosity that was shown, I can’t describe in words, it was absolutely amazing to see,” she said. “Everyone came together and showed their generosity and ultimately had a huge impact for our organization and the children and youth in the community.”

A highlight of the evening was when the bid was opened by the auctioneer for flight time donated by Scott Campbell. The executive director said dozens of attendees were eager to bid on the opportunity to send children for an aeroplane ride over the city.

“Now we are going to have the tough job of choosing which of our 51 children and youth will have this amazing opportunity and it may be life changing for them,” she said.

Combres found it difficult to find the words to describe witnessing the bounty of support from the community.

“It was an emotional time and it was really overweening to see,” she said, adding how she believes the community continues to see the value of investing in children and youth.

“[Thursday] night was proof of that,” she added.
