North Stars welcome Bruins to home den

Nov 9, 2018 | 1:00 PM

The Battlefords North Stars are coming off a week’s rest after a three game road swing last weekend that saw the team collect two-straight wins, making for a successful trip. Tonight, the Stars will look to build on their recent success as of late, as the team welcomes the Estevan Bruins to the N.B. Civic Centre.

The Bruins have won four-straight heading into action, doubling up their opposition by a combined 22-11 count in the process.

Matthias Urbanski leads the Stars in scoring through the team’s opening 20 games. Joined by MacGregor Sinclair and Ryan Gil, the top line of the black and silver has proven to be a driving possession force while on the ice, equally as capable of scoring off the rush using their great speed, as they are at generating scoring chances down low off the cycle game.

Driving the second line, Elijah Loon-Stewardson is coming off a two-point performance against Notre Dame last Sunday, that saw him pick up a goal and an assist in the early-evening showdown. Loon-Stewardson will once again suit up alongside linemates, Owen Lamb and Braydon Buziak.

On line three, Brett Gammer, Regan Doig and Tanner Robin have truly personified the definition of energy unit, while also chipping in on the offensive side of things. Gammer scored a short-handed goal against Weyburn on the Stars’ recent road swing, off a pristine feed from Robin, proving that even a man down, while killing a penalty, the forwards remain a threat.

Quintin Loon-Stewardson, who scored three goals over his team’s three games last weekend, seems to have all but solidified his spot as a mainstay within the Stars’ lineup through his play as of late.

Loon-Stewardson will see time tonight with Dylan Esau and Logan Spence, who has shown already in his young but burgeoning junior hockey career to be a bruin predator, having scored both of his goals and adding an assist as well, in just the two games played previously against the spoked B’s.

Patrolling the blue line, Stars’ captain, Cody Spagrud will once again feature opposite Noah Form on the team’s top pairing tonight. Spagrud has scored 16 points through his opening 20 games, good for top five amongst defensemen league-wide.

Matthew Fletcher, who was recently named SJHL Defenceman of the Week, thanks to elite play at both ends of the rink that saw the second-year defender pick up four assists over his four games played, will be flanked by the ever-fluid skater, Seth Summers to his left.

Austin Shumanski and Tanner Scott make up the third pair, bringing an ever-dependable penalty-killing aptitude to the fold, in addition to their reliable even-strength play.

Stars’ netminder, Joel Grzybowski will get the start again for the club, marking his seventh-straight start for the team. Grzybowski is coming off an all but perfect night that saw the veteran goalie stop 26 of the 28 shots he faced, posting a .929 save percentage in the process.

Fans of the North Stars can catch all of the action on 1050 CJNB, with pregame getting underway at 7:15 p.m. and puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Fans are also invited to stick around at the Civic Centre after tonight’s game for a fan Q&A session in the Hot Stove Lounge involving North Stars’ head coach and GM, Brayden Klimosko, along with team captain, Cody Spagrud and alternate captain, Braydon Buziak.
