North Stars welcome Q&A with family weekend up ahead

Nov 8, 2018 | 1:00 PM

Questions & Cocktails: Friday, Nov. 9:

With five games over their next two weekends, the Battlefords North Stars will be hosting some extra-curricular festivities over their upcoming home stretch.

The North Stars are in action this weekend with games Friday and Saturday night at the Civic Centre.

Friday night, fans will be given the opportunity to get to know North Stars’ coach and general manager, Brayden Klimosko, as well as a couple of the Stars’ players, in defenceman Cody Spagrud and forward Braydon Buziak, a little bit better at the “Q and A” after the Stars’ game against Estevan.

Jennifer Whyte, Marketing and Office Manager for the Stars, said the evening will offer fans of the team an opportunity to get to know both the coach, and players participating, a bit more as people away from the rink.

“A lot of the fans come here to support the team, but they don’t really get to ask those questions that they really want to know,” she said. “They don’t really get to talk to the players, or talk to the coach and I think this is a great way to bring the fans closer to the team and really feel a part of it.”

Taking place at the Hot Stove Lounge at the NB Civic Centre, all are welcome to attend, enjoying cocktails and conversation with last call at 11 p.m.

North Stars’ Parent and Billet Weekend: Nov. 16-18:

The Battlefords North Stars’ parents and billet parents alike are welcome and invited to take part in the team’s parent and billet weekend Nov. 16 to 18.

Whyte said the event is certainly a highlight of the season, and one that both the players and organization as a whole, look forward to greatly.

“Every year we want to show our appreciation for all of the hard work our billets do for all of our players, but we also want to welcome the players’ parents to the community and to the team, and this is a great way to do just that,” she said.

Taking the ice Friday for introductions to the North Stars’ fans, prior to the team’s showdown with the Flin Flon Bombers, the parents and guardians of the players will also be invited to the Prism Cable Hot Stove Lounge Saturday evening to take part in appetizers and cocktails beginning at 5:30 p.m., before the team once again drops the puck against the Bombers.

Also featuring a silent auction, and shootout challenge, amongst the activities, the weekend will wrap up on Sunday with parents and billets invited back to the Civic Centre for brunch at 11 a.m.

Whyte said the weekend offers an opportunity to introduce the families to both the organization, and Battlefords community as a whole.

“To have the parents physically here and entertain them, show them around the community and show them around the rink just shows not only how wonderful of a community we are, but also as a team, how welcoming we are,” she said.
