The John Paul II Junior Girls’ volleyball team captured their second tournament title of the season last weekend, winning five of six total sets to finish first in their pool.

The tournament, held in Unity, featured teams from all around the region, duking it out for volleyball supremacy, including a couple of teams also battling for community bragging rights.

Among John Paul II’s foes on the weekend was a rivalry game against the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings in the semi-finals.

After a nail-biting first set that saw the Crusaders pull of a 26-24 victory, the team from John Paul II then claimed the second set as well, 25-17.

In the finals, John Paul II saw themselves faced by another neighborly foe, in the form of Jonas Samson Junior High, from Meadow Lake.

After a close first set that saw J.P.’s blue and yellow come out on top 25-22, the Crusaders’ junior girls proved all too much for the Meadow Lake Stingers in the second set, displaying some lethal killer-instinct to solidify the win in convincing fashion, 25-9 the final, to take the contest in straight sets.

The win clinched the gold medal for the John Paul II junior girls, and has no doubt helped establish a boost to morale as the team looks to continue to snowball their momentum into yet another good showing this weekend as the club heads right back into action in search of back-to-back golds, taking part in the tournament held this time in Meadow Lake.
