Lloydminster man arrested after officer struck, injured by fleeing vehicle

Oct 1, 2018 | 10:18 AM

A 37-year-old man from Lloydminster is in custody after an RCMP officer was struck and injured by a truck Monday morning.

At around 8:40 a.m., the officer stopped a 2018 white Ford F-350 along Highway 40, about 10 miles West of Richard. During this time, the adult male driver, who was the lone occupant, fled, turned around and tried to run down the officer. The member was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

Close to 10:30 a.m., RCMP located the vehicle speeding on a grid road north of Speers. Police set up and prepared to flatten the vehicle’s tires if need be. A monitored pursuit ensued on grid roads northwest of Speers and west of Whitkow. The man was driving erratically and avoided tire deflation twice. Several police vehicles were struck and damaged while the suspect was evading arrest. Police continued their pursuit on grid roads where there was little to no traffic and a low risk to public safety, according to RCMP.

Though a third attempt to deflate the tires was successful, the man continued to drive on three wheels and managed to get onto Highway 4 and headed north toward the village of Cochin. Police stopped pursuing the vehicle along the highway due to public safety.
