Officials Clinic set to go on Sunday

Sep 24, 2018 | 10:20 AM

For new or returning hockey officials, September 30 is a day that should be circled on the calendar.

The Saskatchewan Hockey Association, along with Battlefords Minor Hockey Association will be putting on a referring clinic for the junior and senior ranks. The event will be an opportunity for young officials who may have not thought about officiating to come out and learn the ins and outs of officiating hockey games.

Sheldon Revet, BMHA’s Director of Officiating told battlefordsNOW the clinic is a great way to get out and involved and grow your knowledge of the game.

“If you love the game of hockey, it’s a great way to get involved,” he said. “It’s the best seat in the house, and a great way to get out and get in shape this winter, and make a little bit of extra money.”

Revet said you can access the online portion of training by going to the SHA website and following the official’s links. For new officials, you will have to start up a new account to register for the online portion, as well as registering for the September 30 camp.

For players who are already registered with SHA, the total will be cheaper than the standard $83 junior fee, and $128 senior fee for officiating.

The clinic will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Battleford Central School, running until 1 p.m. as an in-class clinic where SHA instructors will come in to conduct the clinic, followed by extra instruction for first and second-year officials at the Civic Centre starting at 1:30 p.m.

This year, for officials over the age of 18, the SHA made a slight change, making it mandatory to have their criminal record checks for the 2018-19 year. The deadline for those to be in is December 15, 2018.
