North Battleford RCMP have arrested a serving prisoner at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre in Alberta in relation to a break and enter and robbery north of Edam earlier this year.

Police arrested Darian Jordan Meesto in connection with the incident, which occurred just after 1 a.m. at a residence near Edam on Jan. 12. Meesto appeared in court on Monday in North Battleford. The 24-year-old is facing several charges, including break and enter and commit robbery, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm in a careless manner, discharging a firearm, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence, and forcible confinement.

Meesto is scheduled to be back in court in North Battleford on Wednesday. Police say the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Officials in Alberta say Meesto was sentenced in Lloydminster Provincial Court in March on charges of robbery and breach of undertaking. Meesto was sentenced to one year in jail, minus a credit for 106 days, leaving him with 259 still to serve. He was also handed a lifetime firearms ban.
