Gray moving up to the WHL this season

Aug 15, 2018 | 5:00 PM

After two seasons with the Battlefords North Stars, Marketing and Office Manager Caitlyn Gray is moving on.

Gray, who started with the team in August of 2016, will be starting with the Saskatoon Blades for the 2018-19 WHL season. Gray told BattlefordsNOW her feelings on the new position, and moving up in the hockey industry.

“It’s bitter sweet,” she said. “I’m super excited to continue on in the adventure and in the hockey industry. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, it was a tough decision, but the North Stars have been awesome to me in the last two seasons. This was the best first job in the industry I could have had.”

There’s lots that Gray will miss, not working with the North Stars anymore. She listed off all the aspects of the team when talking about what she’s going to miss, as in the staff, parents, billets, sponsors, the board of directors and of course, the players.

“Everyone I met here have been awesome,” the Maymont native said. “The people are what make this job so fun and so exciting. Starting with the players, they make this job so exciting every single day. They make it so every day is not the same.”

Moving into the 2018-19 season, however, the North Stars are now shorthanded moving into the year. With training camp right around the corner, the team will be looking for Gray’s replacement. Gray had some advice for her successor, who will have big shoes to fill in her place.

“Focus on one thing at a time,” she said. “You’re going to have a huge to do list as soon as you start and going through the season. Focus on one thing at a time, one game at a time, and you’ll make it through the season no problem.”

The North Stars also reacted to the loss of Gray this afternoon, with President Shandon Reichert releasing a statement:

“On behalf of the entire North Star organization I would like to thank Caitlyn for all her hard work and dedication to North Star Hockey Club these past two years and wish her all the best in her new position with the Saskatoon Blades.”
