Aug 13, 2018 | 7:49 AM

RCMP are investigating after a 28-year-old man died in an apparent stabbing on the Onion Lake Cree Nation.

According to police, officers were called to an Onion Lake home at approximately 7 a.m. August 11 after a stabbing was reported. When they arrived, police found 28-year-old Tyson Blair Crosschild outside the residence “in obvious medical distress.” Officers and paramedics attempted first aid, but Crosschild was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Police arrested 20-year-old Dakota Dean Whitstone, a resident of Onion Lake. He’s now facing charges including second-degree murder and breach of a court-ordered recognizance. Police said Whitsone was remanded into custody and will appear in a Lloydminister courtroom August 13. He is presumed innocent at this stage.

The incident is still under investigation, RCMP said, with help from the North Battleford Forensic Identification Section, North Battleford General Investigation Section, the “F” Division’s Major Crimes Unit North, and the Office of the Chief Coroner.
