Aug 13, 2018 | 8:00 AM

Through rain, wind, heat, and smoke, the players endured this weekend at the 2018 Senior Men’s AA Tier 3 Provincial Championship.

When the dust finally settled, it was the Cabri River Rats who took home the championship with a 3-1 win over 2017 provincial finalists, the Unity Cardinals. The game was tight until the end, with Tyrell Olfert leading the way, pitching a complete game for the River Rats.

The tournament consisted of three local teams, hosted by the North Battlefords Beavers at Beaver Lions Stadium and Diamond 4 in North Battleford. The Meadow Lake White Sox and the Cardinals also played in the three-day weekend tournament. The three non-local teams consisted of the Northeast Red Sox, Rosetown Angels, and the eventual Champions, Cabri.

After the first two nights, the round robin concluded with Unity, Cabri, North Battleford, and Northeast making it to the semi-finals. Sunday morning, it was Unity knocking off Northeast 9-4 and Cabri finishing off the Beavers’ season with an 8-3 win. Cabri and Unity played on Saturday morning, with Unity taking the 10-4 win, but eventually, Cabri took the game that gave them the championship.
