Passing lane project begins on Highway 4

A $10 million highway construction project is underway on Highway 4.

The construction project will add two sets of passing lanes on the highway between North Battleford and Cochin. According to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, that stretch of highway sees between 3,700 and 6,900 vehicles every day.

“With a number of lakes and the growing economy in the area, these passing lanes will improve safety,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said in a statement Aug. 8. “Please respect the work zone, follow the psoted signage, and slow down.”

Cochin Mayor Harvey Walker also issued a statement on the project, saying he knows it will be a short-term inconvenience but the project will provide benefits in the long term, especially for those who travel the highway frequently.
