Battleford West receives new playground

Aug 1, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Families in the new Battleford West subdivision area will now be able to enjoy a new children’s playground that has been installed, courtesy of the Town of Battleford.

Parks and Recreation Director Jordan Schechtel said installing the playground was one of the major projects for the department this year.

“It turned out well,” Schechtel said, adding that the town finished work on the project last week. “It’s open and ready for use.”

The town previously received a $25,000 grant under the Community Initiatives Fund through the province to help with costs for the playground equipment, and the town funded the rest of the project.

The project was about $100,000 for the playground itself. In addition, the town completed some park, irrigation and turf work, so the entire project came in at around $160,000 in total.

Schechtel said the playground has two main structures – one for the older children and one for the smaller kids – as well as a couple of small structures and swings also. The project has been in the planning stages since last year.

“They all seem to like it and are pretty appreciative,” he said.
