A weekend full of provincial baseball in the Battlefords has wrapped up.

The Beavers midget team hosted the three-day tournament, which welcomed eight teams from around the region. After all was said and done, the Carrot River loggers ended up taking home the tier-3 championship, downing the Macklin Lakers in the finals 8-6.

Although the Beavers didn’t make the finals, the North Battleford team made a run into the semifinals before losing a close one to Macklin, 3-2. The Beavers swept their three round robin games, beating the Saskatoon Bandit Braves 9-8, a game that saw the Beavers down 8-5 in the bottom of the seventh before Simon Gentes knocked a walk-off single. The local team’s other wins came over Humboldt 1-0 and Oxbow 9-7.

The champions, Carrot River, started the tournament out with a win against Macklin 8-5, another win against the Sask Five Giants 9-7, and a 14-4 win over the Saskatoon Outlaw Braves. They concluded their semifinal matchup with Oxbow, winning 13-7.
